DURHAM, N.C., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ — Inspirational and tender images photographed by renowned portrait artist Tamara Lackey for the January 31, 2010 airing of ABC’s Emmy award-winning show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” captured the depth of love, spirit, and hope evidenced by a Lexington, North Carolina’s family in the midst of their financial struggles, decaying home, and the mother’s stage 4 cancer.

Over fifty images photographed by Tamara, featuring the couple and their three children, were displayed around the newly-built home to offer solace and memories of happy moments shared by the beloved middle school teacher and her close-knit family. Tamara said, “It was truly an honor to be selected to meet and photograph this inspiring family. Everyone on the show worked so hard to pull this off; it was really impressive.”

Tamara specializes in portrait photography and the hit show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” seen by 13 million viewers weekly, contacted Tamara last fall after working with her previously on another episode. Producers sought Tamara’s gift of finding the beauty and light in any situation. This time around, Tamara also worked with host Ty Pennington to create a striking wall display in the couple’s new master bedroom. Rex Ballard, Principal Cinematographer of EM:HE said, “Spending my life telling stories through cinematography, I marvel at the way Tamara can capture the story of a child in one single image.”

Other special guests on the show included singer/songwriter Jewel and Oscar award-winning Reese Witherspoon.

Tamara has a passion for teaching and photography. Featured repeatedly in top industry publications, her work has appeared in Vogue, O Magazine, Town & Country, Martha Stewart Living, and Parenting Magazine, and has also been showcased on NBC’s “The Martha Stewart Show.” A panel judge for the WPPI International Print Competition, Tamara is also the author of The Midwest Book Review’s 5-star pick for photography libraries, “The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography.” Tamara’s instructional DVD, “Inside Contemporary Children’s Photography” recently debuted to much critical acclaim.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” is one of several family and child-based charitable organizations that Tamara Lackey Photography supports. All author proceeds from the sale of “The Art of Children’s Portrait Photography” are donated to Save the Children and the Worldwide Orphans Foundation.

New York / Berlin, September 17, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Now through September 29, artnet Auctions is featuring the Prints Masterworks Auction, a special online auction of prints and multiples by some of the most influential artists of the 20th-21st century. The sale comprises 150 works by 50 artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Pablo Picasso with estimates from $1,000-$150,000.

Leading the sale is Michael Jackson by Andy Warhol, a stunning portrait of the self-proclaimed “King of Pop” executed in 1984 at the height of his fame (estimate: $125,000-150,000). Warhol was commissioned by Time Magazine to create a cover image of Michael Jackson. This unique silkscreen is one of several studies Warhol executed in preparation for the cover. It is expected to attract significant bidder interest as it has never before appeared at auction and is only the second important Michael Jackson portrait by Andy Warhol to be offered at auction since Jackson’s death.

Another highlight is Andy Warhol’s Edward Kennedy, a stately image of the late Senator published in 1980 by the Kennedy for President Committee to raise funds for the Senator’s primary campaign (estimate: $12,000-15,000). A copy of this print hung in Kennedy’s office in Washington D.C. Other iconic Warhol portraits offered in the sale include Mao, 1972, Rebel Without a Cause (James Dean), 1985, and Queen Elizabeth,1985.

Among the other top lots are two important prints by Roy Lichtenstein, Sweet Dreams Baby, 1965, one of his most recognizable Pop images (estimate: $75,000-85,000) and Art Critic, 1996 (estimate: $32,000-38,000).

The auction also celebrates renowned artist Francis Bacon, including the rare Study for a Portrait of John Edwards, 1988 (estimate: $10,000-12,000). Edwards was Bacon’s closest companion and friend and the subject of many of the artist’s important late paintings. He was the sole heir to Bacon’s estate at the time of the artist’s death in 1992. Bacon’s many portraits of Edwards were recently exhibited in the blockbuster Francis Bacon retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

In addition to these important highlights, the sale showcases modern masterworks by Marc Chagall, Joan Miro and Pablo Picasso; mid-century modern American prints by Sam Francis, Robert Motherwell, and Helen Frankenthaler; and important contemporary prints by David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, and Tom Wesselmann.

We invite you to browse the sale on http://www.artnet.com/Masterworks.

NEW YORK and BERLIN, June 29 /PRNewswire/ — artnet Auctions sale of Icons: 20th-21st Century Photographic Portraits showed strength in the photographs market as the ten-day online photographs auction concluded June 25 with $135,000 in sales (including 10% buyer’s premium). The sale featured over 200 original fine art photographs of legends of fashion, film, music, politics, sports, arts and literature from Marilyn Monroe to Madonna.

Top Lots Sold

Screen stars led the sale with spirited bidding for photographs of Hollywood legends Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe. The top lot sold was a rare 1956 portrait of Audrey Hepburn by Yousuf Karsh. This exquisite portrait, which had never been offered at auction, realized an impressive $12,650. Photographs of screen siren Marilyn Monroe also commanded top prices. Five of the top ten lots sold were portraits of the actress taken by Bert Stern. Among them, the stunning chromogenic print Marilyn Monroe: From The Last Sitting, “I Beg of You”, 1962 fetched $1,650, more than double the low estimate. Other top lots included a 1931 gelatin silver print of Greta Garbo by Clarence Sinclair Bull, which sold for $1,842 against an estimate of $800-$1,000 and Marlene Dietrich, by George Hurrell, which realized $1,760 against an estimate of $1,000-$1,500.

Legendary Artists

There was also strong demand for portraits of artists including Salvador Dali, Frank Stella and Pablo Picasso. Two 1970 portraits of Salvador Dali by Marc Lacroix sparked frenzied bidding; Dali and His Muse, Gala realized $6,053, 400% above the low estimate and Dali’s Profile commanded $5,610, 370% above the low estimate.

Other top lots demonstrated the appeal of subjects ranging from astronauts to country music stars. A rare 1969 photograph of the NASA Apollo 11 Moonwalk by Neil Armstrong realized $3,750, 90% above the low estimate while Mark Seliger’s Johnny Cash, Hendersonville, Tennessee, 1992 sold for $3,025, 21% above the low estimate.

“The success of the sale points to the continued demand for high quality photographs at the right estimates,” said Bill Fine, President of artnet Worldwide. “Buyers and sellers alike are increasingly turning to artnet Auctions due to the quality of the works offered on our site, and our comparatively low 10% buyer’s and seller’s premiums.”
