This is the very pinnacle of creative fine art photography.

Nick’s Gregan’s Ambiguous Misdirection exhibition is nothing like anything seen before in the Galleries of London!

Pushing the boundaries of contemporary photographers imagination, the depth and intrigue to this collection is captivating, it transports you into a generous roving space that is the curiosity of your imagination.

As you walk around the gallery each and every image begs the viewer to interact with it, to ask how they were created and where they were they created. The answer is in the visionary creativity that is the mind of the photographer.

From the ambiguous Obsidian Cat which looks as though it could be a sculpture hewn out of black iron brass, to the ever misleading Golden Hollow that is reminiscent of a well-pool filling with water from the rain. The collection reminds me of the zodiac sign Gemini; with each image combining a little of everything and so revealing the intense mental energy of the photographer’s mind to its full capacity.

Some of the images are recognizable and skim the surface of the creative movement known as Bodyscape, a collection of strong images representing the celebration of the female form in a light-hearted way. However the depth passion evoked in these images take photographing the human body to a whole new level.

The silhouettes give you a sensual excitement without any hint of titillation, they offer a hidden mystery differing

After much persuasion Nick finally opened his portfoilo of private work to the general public. The opening night was met with great anticipation and surprised even some of his biggest supporters with the sheer volume of beautiful images he’d had tucked away.

A truly thought provoking and awe inspiring collection.

The rise and rise of ever more intuitive camera phones does not pose a threat to traditional photography, according to the findings of a nation-wide survey unveiled today. The survey of 2,245 consumers from across Great Britain conducted online by YouGov on behalf of Polylooks, Deutsche Telekom’s online photo agency, found that while only seven per cent of Britons say that using their camera phone has heightened their interest in photography, just over a fifth (21 per cent) believe that their camera phone is sufficient for their photographic needs.

Nearly one in three (28 per cent) Britons interviewed by YouGov owned an SLR camera, with ownership higher among more senior age groups. Polylooks’ survey also found that men (17 per cent) were almost twice as willing as women (nine per cent) to spend more than £400 on a camera.

Almost one in ten (nine per cent) have considered converting their passion for photography into a career at some point in their life and a similar number (ten per cent) say they would consider submitting their images on microstock sites, such as Polylooks.

“The British passion for photography remains as strong as ever,” said Norbert Weber, head of Polylooks. “While many of us now have a decent camera as part of our mobile phone, our study shows that not only do most British consumers prefer to use a high-quality camera for personal photography, but that a comparatively large amount would like the option to make money from their images.”

Other interesting findings:

A third (34 per cent) use social networks to share photos (women 35 per cent, men 32 per cent). This decreases with age, with two-thirds of 18-24 year-olds (68 per cent) sharing images on social networks, compared to 30 per cent of 45-54 years-olds, and just 12 per cent of over-55s

A quarter (25 per cent) of people still print images out to keep in physical albums – women (29 per cent) more so than men (20 per cent). Interestingly, the younger age brackets are most likely to print out digital images and keep physical albums (30 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds, compared to 20 per cent of 45 to 54 year olds)

Londoners (12 per cent) believe sharing photos is a critical part of the way they interact with their friends and family, putting more emphasis on images than those in the rest of the south (six per cent) and Wales (five per cent)

* All figures, unless otherwise stated, are from YouGov Plc. Total sample size was 2,245 adults. Fieldwork was undertaken between 14 – 16 April, 2010. The survey was carried out online. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18+).

Mark J. Davis, a Seattle-based emerging photographer, will receive a $5,000 grant to pursue his on-going project Fishing For Leftovers, which highlights the impact of commercial over-fishing on small-scale subsistence fishermen in Southern Chile.

“Photocrati is very excited to support Mark J. Davis’ important environmental work in Chile,” said Erick M. Danzer, Founder and President of Photocrati. “He demonstrated the perfect combination of photographic talent, commitment to a significant cause and the ability to carry out his proposed work.”

The Photocrati Fund aims to provide support for talented emerging photographers to undertake important environmental or humanitarian projects that can have a positive impact on the world around them. Davis’ project was selected from a competitive pool of more than 400 applicants by a prestigious panel of judges that included some of the world’s best-known environmental and cultural photographers: Steve McCurry, Michael “Nick” Nichols and Art Wolfe.

“I am honored and am extremely grateful that through this grant I will be able to continue to tell this important story,” Davis said.

The winner and top finalists were recognized at the prestigious LookBetween Festival in White Hall, Virginia over the weekend. “The judges had a difficult task,” said Danzer. “There were many outstanding photographers with very meaningful projects. We’re proud to highlight the work of these finalists.”

Photocrati Fund finalists include: Bharat Choudary, Anna Beeke, Malin Fezehai, Anna Maria Barry-Jester, Oliver Michael Edwards, Laura El-Tantawy, Andrew Cullen, David Belluz, and Ryan Gauvin.
“We’re very pleased with this first round of applications, and we’re already looking very forward to next year’s competition,” said Danzer.

The 2011 Photocrati Fund competition will begin in November 2010 and will run through March 1, 2011.

The auction, which is currently underway, includes rare photographic images from some of LIFE magazine’s most famous photographers, including Margaret Bourke-White, Alfred Eisenstaedt and Gordon Parks, among others. Nearly 200 lots of vintage photographs chosen from LIFE’s world-class archive collection will be offered.

Photos can be viewed online at www.Lelands.com until the auction closing date of July 9. Never before has LIFE offered original photos via online and catalogue auction to the public. Previously, prints were only available for purchase at select galleries, or as digital reprints on LIFE’s website.

“We are always evaluating new opportunities to market and celebrate our famed photo collection, and are excited to engage Lelands for their online auction experience,” says Jeff Burak, Director of Business Development for LIFE.

Lelands.com chairman, Joshua Leland Evans, ecstatic over the project, said, “This is the photographic equivalent of opening King Tut’s Tomb. We are honored to be chosen for this project–pinching ourselves to be included in such an historic event.”

Interested bidders must submit initial bids by 9 PM on July 9, after registering on the website. The auction continues until bidding has ceased for at least 10 minutes. Photos are shipped to auction winners immediately after funds have cleared.

Founded by Chairman Joshua Leland Evans more than twenty-four years ago, Lelands.com made national news with their purchase of the San Francisco Examiner Photographic Archive for a 7-figure sum in 2005. Lelands.com is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected auction houses specializing in popular culture.

Knight, one of the most acclaimed photographers in rock n’ roll history is bringing his art to the Las Vegas Hilton to be both enjoyed and even purchased by visitors starting May 28th with a huge musical kick off event.

For more than four decades, Knight has captured iconic images of music legends including Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Elton John, Carlos Santana, Van Halen and Jeff Beck. His images are quintessential pieces of pop-culture mythology.

Robert’s partner and wife Maryanne Bilham is an equally talented photographer whose work will also be on display and for sale at the Las Vegas Hilton along with the work of Jim Evans, who created a new style of art called the “icon narrative. Under the name “Rock Machine”, the three are combining a lifetime of music-based art and photography into re-imagining the experience of rock music.

Robert Knight has been called a “Rock Prophet,” a title given to him for his uncanny ability to find new talent. It’s what led to Knight being the subject of a soon-to-be-released movie, “Rock Prophecies” www.rockprophecies.com, which explores Robert’s amazing career and follows him on his quest to help the bands of today become the Rock legends of tomorrow.

His musical portraits and concert photography are also chronicled by Insight Editions’ lavish coffee table book, “Rock Gods” insighteditions.com/product_info.php.

The Knight Gallery at the Las Vegas Hilton will open on a strong note with a concert called “Knight of the Guitar,” featuring Josh Gooch, Ryan McGarvey, Graham Whitford and Yayo Sanchez. “Knight of the Guitar” is set for May 28th, at 8 p.m. in the Hilton Theater. Tickets can be purchased for $15 at the Las Vegas Hilton box office or on-line at www.lvhilton.com.

The hours of operations for the Knight Gallery at the Las Vegas Hilton will be as follows:

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 11 p.m.
