This is the very pinnacle of creative fine art photography.

Nick’s Gregan’s Ambiguous Misdirection exhibition is nothing like anything seen before in the Galleries of London!

Pushing the boundaries of contemporary photographers imagination, the depth and intrigue to this collection is captivating, it transports you into a generous roving space that is the curiosity of your imagination.

As you walk around the gallery each and every image begs the viewer to interact with it, to ask how they were created and where they were they created. The answer is in the visionary creativity that is the mind of the photographer.

From the ambiguous Obsidian Cat which looks as though it could be a sculpture hewn out of black iron brass, to the ever misleading Golden Hollow that is reminiscent of a well-pool filling with water from the rain. The collection reminds me of the zodiac sign Gemini; with each image combining a little of everything and so revealing the intense mental energy of the photographer’s mind to its full capacity.

Some of the images are recognizable and skim the surface of the creative movement known as Bodyscape, a collection of strong images representing the celebration of the female form in a light-hearted way. However the depth passion evoked in these images take photographing the human body to a whole new level.

The silhouettes give you a sensual excitement without any hint of titillation, they offer a hidden mystery differing

After much persuasion Nick finally opened his portfoilo of private work to the general public. The opening night was met with great anticipation and surprised even some of his biggest supporters with the sheer volume of beautiful images he’d had tucked away.

A truly thought provoking and awe inspiring collection.

TOKYO, Apr. 26 /PRNewswire/ — Ricoh Co., Ltd., has announced that the Alex Prager Photo Exhibition “Week-end” will be held starting April 28, 2010 (Wed.) at Ricoh Photo Gallery RING CUBE located in the Ginza district of Tokyo. This is Alex Prager’s first solo exhibition in Japan. It was arranged in collaboration with the internationally prominent London gallery Michael Hoppen Contemporary*. “Week-end” exhibits 18 color photographs with an impact that is both bizarre and intense. All the works being exhibited are original prints, with the largest being approximately 120 cm by 180 cm. Prager herself has said that she is “documenting a world that exists and doesn’t exist at the same time.” Although the world shown in “Week-end” is an illusion, it is portrayed in a way that makes it more real than the real world.

At Ricoh, our ambition is for RING CUBE to be not only “a place to display and appreciate photographs,” but also a gathering place for people who want to both enjoy photographs and express themselves through photographs and a place that expands the possibilities of photography. We will continue to hold exhibitions presenting the works of a wide range of photographers, both professional and amateur.

*The Michael Hoppen Contemporary gallery was created in 2000 within the Michael Hoppen Gallery, a London gallery well known throughout the world. It exhibits the works of established as well as up-and-coming artists from many countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, and the Netherlands. (www.michaelhoppengallery.com)

Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles in 1979. In her early 20s, she devoted herself to photography after seeing an exhibition of the photographs of William Eggleston at the Getty Museum. She eschewed art school and began studying photography on her own, learning equipment and lighting through trial and error. Since then her photographs have been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, London and elsewhere and have been presented in a number of publications, including “Details,” “i-D,” “Tank,” “Elle Japon,” “MOJO,” and “Complex.” She will have a solo show in June 2010 at Michael Hoppen Contemporary in London

St. Paul, Minn. (Vocus/PRWEB ) April 20, 2010 — It’s as if you were there: Aug. 21, 1965, and the only Minnesota appearance by the Beatles, the biggest rock band of all time. Seventeen-year-old Bill Carlson was there. Trying to hone his craft, Carlson was eager to grab an unclaimed press pass and shoot the Beatles’ arrival at the airport, the press conference and the concert that followed. Carlson took more than 140 photographs that day, capturing the personality of the Beatles and their fans in spontaneous, casual, black-and-white images. Now, 45 years later, history lovers, music lovers and everyday Minnesotans can relive the day for themselves in the new exhibit “The Beatles! A One-Night Stand in the Heartland,” at the Minnesota History Center, July 17 – Sept. 12, 2010.

The exhibit features 36 images, some of which are never-before-seen pictures of the Beatles in concert. Through the images, exhibit goers will be able to make intimate connections with the Beatles, a band that changed music and popular culture forever. The photographs also tell the story of Carlson, a young photographer just starting out in his career, who attended the press conference where he talked with George Harrison about his new Rickenbacker guitar. But Carlson wasn’t the only teenager following the Beatles. At the concert, there were more than 25,000 screaming, shouting, cheering and swooning fans. Carlson’s photographs capture close-up moments of fans touched by the Beatles and their music as well as mob scenes with girls waiting to greet the band as they got off the plane and during the press conference.

In addition to the images, the exhibit features an artifact case with items from Carlson’s photography career, including one of his early cameras. A computer station will play video footage of the Beatles press conference and users can pull up a web page where they can enter their own memories of the Beatles visit to Minnesota and read entries by other fans.

Online Connections
In 2008, the Society started collecting online memories of fans who attended, or wanted to attend, the concert in 1965. Visitors to the exhibit can read these memories, including “Catherine’s” lament that she couldn’t go to the concert because the $5.50 ticket price cost too much. “Gail” tells of attending the concert at age 11 and forming a Beatles air-guitar band with three girlfriends (the group got so good they won a talent contest). “Mike” describes going to the concert at age 15 with his brother Bill and cousin Greg, and sitting in the third deck behind home plate on “a beautiful August evening.” The Beatles: Share Your Story can also be viewed online at www.mnhs.org/beatles.

Exhibit Public Reception
The History Center’s free summer concert series, 9 Nights of Music, features the music of the Beatles July 20 from 5 to 9 p.m. It’s an extended evening of classic rock tunes, performed by local cover-band RetroFit. The night serves as the exhibit reception and includes complimentary access to the Beatles exhibit gallery, a book signing with author and photographer Bill Carlson and a screening of the Beatles movie “A Hard Day’s Night” in the 3M Auditorium. Other activities include a photo op with a life sized Sgt. Pepper’s Album Cover, The Beatles Rock Band music video game and a Beatles inspired costume contest.

Bring a lawn chair, and pack a picnic or purchase food from the Café Minnesota Terrace Grill. Come early and take advantage of free admission to the museum galleries and stores from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. For more information visit http://www.mnhs.org/9nights.

About Bill Carlson
This exhibit is based on the book, “The Beatles! A One-Night Stand in the Heartland,” by Bill Carlson. The book features commentary from those who were there, including Larry Kane, an Emmy-award-winning writer, who was the only broadcast journalist to travel to every stop on the Beatles’ 1964 and 1965 tours, including Minneapolis.

Bill Carlson is an accomplished photographer, cinematographer and scuba diver, combining his love for photography and diving to explore and film the underwater cave systems of Mexico and Florida. He has captured images in over 75 countries around the world and has been the director of photography on numerous commercials, films, and documentaries, most recently, “Pride of Lions,” a feature length film about the humanitarian and political crisis in Sierra Leone.

Admission

Russia’s finest photographers are represented.

Max Alpert, for example, is one of the greatest photographers of the 20th Century. His image of Commander Alexei Yeremenko, urging on his men in 1942 shortly before his death, is justly famous. To capture this silent, devastating, shot Alpert was right up front. You can hear the bullets.

TOKYO, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ — Ricoh Co., Ltd. has announced the start of the Ikuo Tatsumi Photo Exhibition: “Run! Shoot! In the World’s Marathons” from February 3, 2010. This is an exhibition of works chosen from among those submitted during the July-September 2009 public submission period. Entering marathons in Tokyo and six other major cities (New York, Vancouver, Berlin, London, Roma and Seoul), from the course Ikuo Tatsumi shot photographs of scenes and people that gave his heart pause as he ran. Over 120 photographs are to be exhibited.

These fresh and vivid images of roadside and course scenery are presented from a new viewpoint: that of the runner. Energized by the vigor and smiling faces of these photographs, viewers will be ready to go out and run themselves. There are plans to also present a special selection of photographs of the Tokyo Yumemai Marathon, in which participants run on sidewalks following traffic rules, and photographs of marathons in Okinawa, which have a festival atmosphere.

Ikuo Tatsumi is a journalist. After stints as a Kyodo News reporter at locations such as Maebashi, Sendai and Sapporo as well as in the Foreign News Section at the head office, he served as Phnom Penh bureau chief and was assigned as a video and news desk journalist at the Tokyo MX television station. He is currently an editor of audio-video news at the head office. Tatsumi has written many newspaper and magazine news articles, including photo-illustrated overseas reportage, and he has also produced many video reports. Tatsumi has completed over 40 full marathons. He continues to run in marathons throughout the world, holding a compact camera in one hand and taking photographs along the way.

At marathons held in major cities abroad, there is a festival atmosphere both on the course and alongside it. The runners, cheering spectators and volunteers all have leading roles in this festival. It was my ambition to hold this kind of marathon in Tokyo, and I also wanted to communicate to people the fun of running together. That is why I got involved in activities to promote the holding of the Tokyo Marathon, and it is also why I began taking photographs while running in marathons around the world. On these 42.195 km journeys, I encounter many people, who give me strength to keep running. I hope you too will enjoy these encounters with such people, these instants of the heart dancing!

“Hidden in Plain Sight” explores the language, customs, traditions and values of the Basque people as well as the allure that America held for them. The exhibit will be on display from February 6 to May 9, 2010.

“As the nation’s only Basque museum, we were presented with this rare opportunity to create an unprecedented display of Basque history, language and culture in the U.S. The result is breathtaking,” said Patty Miller, executive director of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.

The exhibit showcases Basque history and culture in six separate gallery rooms, each with its own theme and narrative. Exhibit materials were selected to represent Basques from across the U.S. as well as the Basque homeland. The compilation includes audio and visual recordings, historic and contemporary photographs, never-before-seen historical artifacts, artwork and interactive activities.

Basques have made a significant impact around the world throughout history and continue to have a vast presence and influence in the U.S., particularly in the American West. Contemporary American Basques have benefitted greatly from the strong work ethic and determination of their ancestors. Today, Basque culture is alive and thriving, and the Boise Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Idaho serves as a pivotal national cultural resource for Basque education, history and celebration.
Gunnarsson’s dramatically innovative and colourful photo series ‘Some Time in my Garden’ uses creative lighting techniques. Her painterly photographs explore relationships between people, their “masks”, external objects and surroundings – all existing in a fantastical urban garden, where the bright colours of nature make their own powerful statement. The beauty and style of her works were inspired by her time in London and its extraordinary vibe, and take spectators on a journey within the extended reality of a utopian urban environment.

“We are so pleased to host brilliant artists like Karin Gunnarsson for our Art@Ketchum Pleon series,” said David Gallagher, senior partner and president, Ketchum Pleon, and CEO of Ketchum Pleon London. “Not only does this programme foster creative thinking amongst Ketchum Pleon employees, but it also allows us to open our doors to the larger London community and to support these talented local artists.”
