Gold Level Photographer Jim DeLillo Cancels iStock Exclusivity, First Stop … Fotolia

New York, NY, Oct. 20, 2009. Jim DeLillo, a Gold Level contributor (10,000 downloads) has ended his exclusivity agreement with the microstock giant iStock. A New Jersey photographer, DeLillo is ranked 1267 worldwide by http://istockcharts.multimedia.de/ and is credited with over 11,000 downloads. He has uploaded his entire portfolio to Fotolia. 
Full artist Exclusivity on iStock means images, video or audio files cannot be sold on other royalty-free sites or businesses, with the exception of Getty Images.
The agreement restricted DeLillo to selling his royalty-free (RF) stock images only through iStock. The benefits of such an agreement can include increased payout rates, higher upload limits, quicker approval times, and some additional marketing exposure.
Although canceling the agreement means losing some benefits, going non-exclusive empowers DeLillo to sell RF stock photography through whatever outlet he chooses. The microstock market is growing at an amazing rate, as there are over thirty-three commonly known microstock agencies.
DeLillo says, “With iStock’s decision to offer exclusive content through non-exclusive partners, and Getty now marketing tiny size images while offering to purchase Flickr photos from individuals it appears that the exclusive marketing model has changed.”
“I want to follow the view that more sales channels are better,” adds DeLillo, “Fotolia, one of the world’s leading sources for high quality microstock imagery is the logical first stop for me. They are experiencing rapid growth and being very innovative in their marketing.”
Fotolia is where recent hires Garth Johnson, former VP Business and Community Development of rival firm iStockphoto, and iStockphoto co-founder, Patrick Lor, have recently taken executive positions.
