so, what does a photo editor do anyhow?
by Jess on May.17, 2009, under photo editor, photography, publishing, research
I worked as a photo editor in New York for quite some years. Upon moving to Israel I discovered that for whatever reason(s) this is not a common profession. Even in the states I would often get the question, “so, what does a photo editor do anyhow?” Well, let me answer that for you…
A photo (or picture) editor is the person that researches, locates and obtains rights for the use of visual content. We are the ones who keep up with the latest photo agencies and photographers. We know which agency and/or photographer will best suit your needs. In addition to knowing where to find these image , we can also help you decide which image will be the most effective and make the best impact for your particular project.
In New York, I worked in traditional publishing, however the function of a photo editor can be served across all industries, from the smallest blog to a start-up’s investor presentation.
So, welcome to The F Stops Here! If you are a picture provider, I would love to feature your work. If you are looking for visual content, from that “money shot” to an obscure historical figure, I’m your gal!

Love the blog name! Photo Editor seems to be one of those “behind-the-scenes” jobs that until someone explains what it is, you don’t realize how much it enriches your overall media experience.
Welcome to WordPress.com! Give a shout if I can help in any way.

Being a photo editor myself (and occasional globe-trotting photojournalist) I agree with you wholeheartedly!
