Morguefile.com announces the introduction of a new website for stock photographers and the creative industry, Fotokoi.com, images by request. Fotokoi will be released first as a mobile web application this summer and then later a desktop version in fall. There will be a formal introduction of Fotokoi during CEPIC conference in Istanbul on May 21st.
With fotokoi a buyer can post a request for a specific image that is too difficult to locate or too expensive to purchase using traditional methods. Drawing a simple sketch, then photographing that sketch with their camera phone and then posting their sketch with a brief description and a set price, they can connect with photographers and illustrators who can provide them with an image. The buyer sorts through the results by an approval process, ends the request and compensates the contributing creative participants. Images are distributed with a creative commons license. With fotokoi a buyer who is looking for a very specific image can utilize crowd sourcing to reach a broad audience of creative professionals as well as any individual looking to earn extra revenue simply with their mobile phone.
The strategy of fotokoi is to open the process of sourcing imagery to a wider audience of potential buyers. By lowering the barrier to procuring the talents of a photographer or illustrator, a process that traditionally falls under the realm of art directors. While doing so, creating a much larger market for photographers and illustrators to find creative projects.

Last Portrait of Andy Warhol Before He Died is Currently Featured in Exhibition of David LaChapelle’s Early Work at Michelman Fine Art (MFA) in New York
by Jess on May.02, 2011, under photography
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 02, 2011 Michelman Fine Art (MFA) is presenting its first exhibition of contemporary art with a selection of the early work of post-modern pop photographer, David LaChapelle. The photographs will be shown in New York for the first time in over 20 years. LaChapelle’s first solo show was in the early 80s. Immersed in the art world of Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, Schnabel and other 80s icons, LaChapelle developed an iconic vision of his own. Over the years, his fine art photographs evolved into elaborate theatrical fantasies on the themes of religion, sex, death, politics, money and consumption. His lush photo-scapes, which appear to be painterly, are influenced by Pop art, Surrealism, and Rennaissance and Baroque art. The current show reveals the beginnings of his exploration with these influences and themes. The early works include examples from his first show, “Angels, Saints and Martyrs”, in which black and white figures seem to transcend the physical realm; as well as other series that employ elements of collage, saturated colors and raw nude figures — recalling the ideas that shaped his later, multi-faceted photo-scapes.
Known primarily as private dealers in important works of Impressionism, Modern and Post-War Art, MFA is presenting the exhibition in a new gallery space on Madison Avenue, steps away from the Whitney Museum.
The exhibition, “David LaChapelle Early Work: 1984 –1987” will run from May 2nd – June 15th at 1020 Madison Avenue, 3rd fl, between 78th St and 79th St. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am-5pm.

Lewis Baltz: Prototypes/Ronde de Nuit at the National Gallery of Art, March 20 through July 31, 2011
by Jess on Mar.13, 2011, under exhibition, photography
New Monterey, 1968
From 1967 through the early 1970s, the Californian artist Lewis Baltz (born 1945) made a series of photographs that focuses on the sides of warehouse sheds, stucco walls, empty billboards, and other geometric forms found in the postwar suburban landscape. He titled these works Prototypes, by which he meant both the industrially made model structures scattered across California and the modern culture that generated them. Never before exhibited as a group, the Prototypes are among the earliest works of art to show the fascinating and disturbing transformation of the American landscape into an unending terrain of anonymous commercial architecture.
In the first exhibition dedicated to this series, some 50 Prototypes will be on view along with sculptures by Sol LeWitt and Donald Judd and prints by Richard Serra—key participants in the avant-garde dialogue that inspired Baltz. In addition, the exhibition will include the 12-panel color work Ronde de Nuit (Night Watch) from 1991 to 1992, a mural-sized tableau of surveillance sites and the people who work in them. Dramatically different in scale and appearance from the Prototypes, Ronde de Nuit reveals the artist’s continuing preoccupation with industrially manufactured environments and how they are used to control contemporary society.
